A Double Celebration

2020-04-30T10:53:24+01:00

We're half way into Chinese New Year week. It kicked off to a good start the past weekend and Monday, marking the first two days of The Year of The Monkey. We will be continuing the celebration until Sunday, the 14th of February which also ends on a sweet note of Valentine's Day. Cause for a double celebration. You can still book a table to celebrate Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day together. What better way to enjoy the evening with the delights of Chinese New Year and toasting to love at the same time? Traditionally, Chinese New Year denoted the [...]

Year Of The Monkey

2020-04-30T10:53:24+01:00

Welcome to the Year of The Monkey. In Chinese culture, there is no bigger festival to speak of than this momentous occasion. As a child I remember the excitement when it was time to literally sweep out the old to make room for fresh and new things. We'd clean our rooms and help in the kitchen to prepare for the week of culinary delights. To this day I incorporate this value, and it helps me clear my head and set out new goals to achieve for the coming year. Today we begin or week long celebration. We will be hosting the [...]

Food & Flowers

2020-04-30T10:53:24+01:00

My passion for flower arrangement has stayed with me through the years. It has also become an important part of Naturally Chinese's brand development because it is an extension of our services and the whole experience we offer. Ikebana - the art of arranging flowers is more than just that. It is less about putting flowers in a vase as it is more a way of living and experiencing a connection with nature. You might have also noticed that at Naturally Chinese, our flower arrangements are never uniform, but asymmetrical and less elaborate. This is truer to Ikebana. The idea of taking plants [...]

Gluten Free Beer

2020-04-30T10:53:24+01:00

The New year brings new changes, and we are making some on our menu. Very excited to introduce these. Nothing too drastic, just a bit of a revamp. On our quest to cater fully to our Coeliac community, we now have two gluten free beers to choose from. We sampled them to our customers yesterday at dinner, and although one had more popularity than the other, I am going to include both. The two beers are brewed locally in Kent at the Westerham brewery. The thought of it being local and not having to travel too far to get here is a [...]

Year Of The Monkey 2016: We're following on into Chinese New Year beginning February 7th 12pm. We will be taking the celebration to the entire week until February 14th 10pm. Yes, much to celebrate as we will also finish on a lovely note of Valentine's Day. For the week of festivities, we have our special Longevity Noodles on the menu. Swift Beginnings

2020-04-30T10:53:24+01:00

Welcome to the new year at Naturally Chinese! Over a week into 2016, and I'm thinking of all the things on my list to get done, even those resolutions. The holiday came and went too soon, I'm sure you can agree. Very early signs of Spring are already showing - small daffodil bulbs sprouting in the garden and the days are beginning to get brighter. I'm sure there might be a few other signs you will have noticed. Time is certainly passing us by in our digital age, which can be a challenge to keep up. We're already beginning our preparations for [...]

New Years Eve

2020-04-30T10:53:24+01:00

After a much deserved break, we've had a good start to the week. The weather being much warmer although windy makes it perfect for that hot pot of goodness that we cook up here at the hands of our esteemed chefs. And while preparations for the last day of 2015 are taking place; it's time to clear out the old to make room for the new. We're open tomorrow (new years' eve) as well as January 1st. So book your table to celebrate the beginning of something special for 2016. If you are in the mood for an auspicious aromatic duck [...]

A Restful Christmas

2020-04-30T10:53:25+01:00

In addition to the feast and festivities, Christmas to me is more about family and rejuvenation. At Naturally Chinese, our staff is like family too. Our celebration kicked off earlier this week with a staff party that was a wonderful gathering to appreciate a good 2015 and that after a long journey of putting together a reliable team, our staff have delivered and we are very thankful for this. We cooked a traditional roast accompanied by some vintage reds that elevated the dining experience. We also had some other interesting embellishments like a seafood salad prepared by our top chef Chiu, and delectable [...]

A little Luxury

2020-04-30T10:53:25+01:00

With Christmas comes the desire to feel young like a child - mesmerized by the magic of the winter wonderland. There are many luxuries life has to offer us and of course it's all matter of perspective how we choose to find them. The small luxuries make life's journey light and fun - a card from a colleague, a flower from someone special, even a box of home-made sweets we receive from a friend, and just like that, we feel loved and cared for. With all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, longer hours of work, I've had to work harder [...]

Star Anise & Mulled Wine

2020-04-30T10:53:25+01:00

Of all our spices, Star Anise is definitely the treasured one. The fruit of an evergreen tree grown in China and Vietnam, this woodland spice springs forth memories distant and makes possible the scope to create more. A casserole in Chinese cooking isn't quite complete without the magic of star anise.  It especially works well with meats and meaty vegetables. It's woody smokiness is like a cure that perfumes and adds elegance. At Christmas, I look forward to stirring up some mulled wine just so I can drop a few pods of star anise into the pot. That to me strikes [...]
