Working Together

2020-04-30T10:52:56+01:00

It's the first of May and what a beautiful afternoon it's been today with the gift of warmth and sunshine. Good to see everyone taking advantage of the sun. Hopefully we've commenced the season of brighter days. With Surbiton Food Festival having just begun, there's plenty to look forward to for the couple of weeks ahead. Speaking of May day and this particular celebration for the working man and woman, on a recent trip to Japan, I was struck by the sense of commitment and solidarity in the work place. I visited a farm that practised nature farming in the South of [...]

Springtime Lunches

2020-04-30T10:52:57+01:00

It's time again for relishing those long afternoon lunches, the kind we like to enjoy whilst admiring the Spring blossoms. With a mixed bag of weather surprises we've been having, there's still always a reason to gather with friends, feel invigorated by long walks and try to make the best even on a cloudy afternoon. All these tie in nicely with a delicious meal to complement your outing. A fancy pick me up in the form of dim sum might just be what you need to add to your "To Do List". Steaming baskets of buns and dumplings made fresh in [...]

The Spring line up of activities are about to begin in a couple of weeks. The Naturally Chinese food stall will be up on Sunday, 8th of May, in full form with our best selling dishes many of which will include the gluten free selection. Prawn Toast

2020-04-30T10:52:57+01:00

My new twist on bread and butter is now that of prawn toast. Usually found as little triangular toasts seasoned in shrimp paste, deep fried and sprinkled with sesame seeds. But today, our chef prepared his version using french baguette, making it light, fluffy, golden and crispy to bite. What a ravishing toasty delight and easy to prepare too. This dish could very well be a relative to french toast but as there is no cream or milk, it makes a savoury delight. Prawn toast is originally a Cantonese creation from the Guangzhou region in China. It has made its way [...]

Our 4th Birthday

2020-04-30T10:52:57+01:00

We're flying swiftly into our fourth birthday, celebrating our anniversary this week. The past year has gone by quickly and not without its set of challenges. However we move into another year with plenty to be happy and proud of. Still holding the spot of the only gluten free accredited Chinese restaurant in England by Coeliac UK, we are continuing to work hard keeping our ratings high with consistent good food and service; and special care and attention to gluten free processes for our Coeliac customers. The last year kept us busy with events like the charity Fundraising dinner, Surbiton Food festival and many more. [...]

Earth Hour 2016

2020-04-30T10:52:57+01:00

Earth hour 2016 is this Saturday 19th of March. From 8:30-9:30pm Naturally Chinese will join many others in the observance of conserving energy. We will be switching the lights off at the restaurant and dining by candle light in support of Earth Hour. For the light we often take for granted, what a wonderful opportunity to come together for a good cause, to appreciate and discover a new experience. An exciting time to talk about the current situation of our planet.  It's not just about promoting clean and renewable energy, but many other variables such as ban on disposable plastics, conserving forests, [...]

Gluten Free Accreditation

2020-04-30T10:52:57+01:00

A few weeks ago, we were paid a surprise visit from the gluten Free accreditation center of Coeliac UK. Happy to say we passed with flying colors again. A much appreciated 'A' on the test, makes me proud of the team of Chefs and staff for all their hard work to keep things running smoothly in the gluten free department. We've streamlined our processes a great deal over the last three years. Our ultimate goal is to get it near perfect and seamless as automatic. New staff are given extensive training to ensure no cross contamination, but rather knowledge and empathy [...]

Mother’s Weekend

2020-04-30T10:53:23+01:00

Mothering Sunday to me denotes a distinct change in season. Spring takes over on Mother's day in my mind. I see the flowers blooming, blue skies, the sun shining (even if it isn't). This is perhaps because as a mother myself, the joy follows when my children come home to spend the weekend with me. I like to see the whole weekend as a treat to relax and gather some much needed family time. I realize from the last three years of celebrating Mother's Day at Naturally Chinese that many of you like to celebrate an afternoon lunch or afternoon dim sum [...]
