Soft-Shell Crab

2020-04-30T10:50:32+01:00

Many countries around the world create this dish in their own unique way. Our deep fried soft-shell crab on the menu may be a bit of a surprise to some, but it is very popular in Asian cuisine. Soft-shell crab has different varieties of course, depending on the place and the kind of crab that is local to the region. But one thing is true, and that the taste and texture of a soft-shell crab no matter how it is prepared is one to delight in and never be forgotten. The trick to getting it right is to work fast and [...]

Chicken in Wine

2020-04-30T10:50:32+01:00

This is our version of a Coq-au-vin, prepared with essentially Chinese herbs and wine. What makes it distinctive to the Chinese version of the dish is the wine - fermented rice wine known as Saoxing wine. It is sweet, almost like a sherry which gives a mild marinade to the chicken. Unlike its French counterpart, this dish uses more spice than herb, sometimes flavouring it with a bark of cinnamon but mostly star anise which is signature to asian cooking. Mushrooms are used as a matter of choice but never overpowering the taste of chicken which is the main highlight of the dish. [...]

The lightness of greens

2020-04-30T10:50:48+01:00

A big part of our cuisine uses the colour green. The leafy logo that is part of our identity denotes our partiality to green leafy vegetables in all our meal combinations. It has and remains an important component of the diet. The lightness of greens, in addition to its aesthetic appeal, is beneficial to counterbalance other foods. Our favourite and incidentally most popular is a detox mixed vegetable and a green beans side dish.  In a good sized portion that can be enjoyed even by one person alone, it is cooked in a garlic or chilli bean sauce. Singed on the outside and [...]

Culinary Insights

2020-04-30T10:50:48+01:00

It was about two years after opening the restaurant that magazine publications, bloggers and other culinary connoisseurs began to take notice of what Naturally Chinese had to offer. We had a great review in Stylist magazine back in 2015 that featured in the top  UK bars and restaurants for  healthy eating. It was a fulfilling task to bring Naturally Chinese into the culinary insights of foodies that were looking for a more healthy approach to Chinese cuisine. Chinese cuisine traditionally has always maintained a healthy approach to food. It was perhaps the advent of fast food -adding MSG and other additives [...]

Naturally Chinese

2020-04-30T10:50:49+01:00

What makes the essence of Chinese cuisine is what is diverse about it. Chinese cooking can be said to be one of the most complex even if turned out from a wok in a matter of minutes. China has many regions and within it lies a variety in styles of cooking. Some of these we incorporate into the dishes at Naturally Chinese. Some of them have been devised by our chefs placing their own spin to make them unique. However, still keeping with the original ingredients and methods making it naturally Chinese. China houses eight dominant regions of cuisine. These are [...]

So with the heat wave we've been experiencing this past week, you might agree that consumption of ice cream has probably risen substantially. Ribs in Capital Sauce

2020-04-30T10:50:49+01:00

Sometimes a plate of succulent ribs and a cool beer just hits the spot, especially on a sunny sweltering day like today. We're in the middle of June and it looks like Summer has settled in. And if it has crossed your mind to feast on a summer favourite such as ribs -- The chefs at Naturally Chinese have worked three different styles of ribs on the menu. The idea is small plates as appetizers or even a tapas style dining experience. Ribs in Capital Sauce is a dish or spare ribs in a fruity plum sauce. This Cantonese style of cooking [...]

Father’s Day

2020-04-30T10:50:49+01:00

Father's Day has the benefit of being on the brink of Summer. The weather leaves open the possibilities to treat your dad to a fantastic Father's Day celebration. I'm sure you would agree that it is important to let fathers take center stage on this day. The role of a father has been evolving and making steady progress towards being more involved in a child's life. Gone are the days when it was unique to see a father change a diaper and cook the family meal. It is refreshing to see this change, making fathers more sensitive to the emotional needs [...]
