For the past 16 years, the second week of May has been used to highlight and improve awareness of coeliac disease and the gluten free diet. As you might know already that Coeliac disease is not an allergy or food intolerance, it is an autoimmune disease which affects 1 in 100 people in the UK.

When someone with coeliac disease eats food containing gluten it causes damage to the lining of the gut, which reduces the absorption of nutrients from food and may present itself with a range of symptoms.  Children and young adults with coeliac disease often feel isolated and left out and after the year we’ve all had and that’s the last thing anyone needs. It is estimated 1.3 million Britons are now on a gluten free diet which is the medical treatment for coeliac disease and we want to shine a light on coeliac disease, raise £50,000 and continue to make life better for everyone who needs to live gluten free.

At Naturally Chinese , we have always believed that no one should feel left out, and when we looked into how we could make this a reality in terms of creating a gluten free menu, Coealic UK was a big resource in making this a possibility. We have been affiliated with Coeliac UK and stand with them to spread the awareness about Coeliac disease. We acknowledge Coeliac Awareness week this May along with them.

children and young people with coeliac disease by

supporting Coeliac UK’s Awareness Week campaign.
