New Years Eve

2020-04-30T10:53:24+01:00

After a much deserved break, we've had a good start to the week. The weather being much warmer although windy makes it perfect for that hot pot of goodness that we cook up here at the hands of our esteemed chefs. And while preparations for the last day of 2015 are taking place; it's time to clear out the old to make room for the new. We're open tomorrow (new years' eve) as well as January 1st. So book your table to celebrate the beginning of something special for 2016. If you are in the mood for an auspicious aromatic duck [...]

A Restful Christmas

2020-04-30T10:53:25+01:00

In addition to the feast and festivities, Christmas to me is more about family and rejuvenation. At Naturally Chinese, our staff is like family too. Our celebration kicked off earlier this week with a staff party that was a wonderful gathering to appreciate a good 2015 and that after a long journey of putting together a reliable team, our staff have delivered and we are very thankful for this. We cooked a traditional roast accompanied by some vintage reds that elevated the dining experience. We also had some other interesting embellishments like a seafood salad prepared by our top chef Chiu, and delectable [...]

A little Luxury

2020-04-30T10:53:25+01:00

With Christmas comes the desire to feel young like a child - mesmerized by the magic of the winter wonderland. There are many luxuries life has to offer us and of course it's all matter of perspective how we choose to find them. The small luxuries make life's journey light and fun - a card from a colleague, a flower from someone special, even a box of home-made sweets we receive from a friend, and just like that, we feel loved and cared for. With all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, longer hours of work, I've had to work harder [...]

Star Anise & Mulled Wine

2020-04-30T10:53:25+01:00

Of all our spices, Star Anise is definitely the treasured one. The fruit of an evergreen tree grown in China and Vietnam, this woodland spice springs forth memories distant and makes possible the scope to create more. A casserole in Chinese cooking isn't quite complete without the magic of star anise.  It especially works well with meats and meaty vegetables. It's woody smokiness is like a cure that perfumes and adds elegance. At Christmas, I look forward to stirring up some mulled wine just so I can drop a few pods of star anise into the pot. That to me strikes [...]

Authenticity

2020-04-30T10:53:25+01:00

As 2015 comes to a close in a few weeks, I'm excited to dive into the new year, the next phase of Naturally Chinese. With every season and year, a shift occurs and that has been my guide or compass to gauge the direction that feels right to move into. There is no mystery that surrounds this as every business should undergo this eventual process. The last three years have been nothing short of an adventure. The ups and downs have come in equal measure but we overcame them striving to find our true voice and that special quality we want [...]

Winter Warmers

2020-04-30T10:53:25+01:00

With the weather turning almost an icy cold after dark, there is a longing for those winter warming dishes. Delicious comfort to get the spirits up and light some sparkle to the eyes, bringing warmth to the body. For those who enjoy a hearty bit of pork, this Chinese braised pork belly concoction is worthy of a meal for one, not on account of the portion, but because after one bite, you will want this steamy hot pot all to yourself. And it has been common practice for patrons to mop up all those succulent juices that make this dish special. [...]

Raw Salads

2020-04-30T10:53:25+01:00

Cool, refreshing and cleansing are some of the instant benefits of a raw salad. Then there's colour that is appealing to the eyes and good to lift up the spirits. At Naturally Chinese, we don't keep a special section for salad. But we offer our raw salad as a light palette cleanser; a complement to some of our heavier dishes. An order of raw salad adds a bit of vitality along with a hearty dish of meat or chicken, or even dim sum. If a side dish of vegetable doesn't strike your fancy, the raw salad will rejuvenate with its strips of jewel [...]

Delectable Rotisserie

2020-04-30T10:53:25+01:00

A sight to behold with a taste you are bound to remember - the crispy pork belly is like the grand prize in the category of delectable meats. Cooked to perfection with succulent juices and crackling rind around, this dish has to be one of my favourites. The fat is just as important as the tenderness of the meat and the crispiness of the rind. The trick is in getting the balance of the three just right. It remains one of the more popular Cantonese dishes. We offer a variety dish of rotisserie meats which include roasted duck, crispy skin pork [...]

Soup For The Heart

2020-04-30T10:53:26+01:00

The chill is in the air. Leaves are turning to red and gold. Autumn is here again. Some of us are adjusting our bodies to the change of season overcoming the common cold and flu. This is usually the time we crave to have that hot chocolate or comforting soup. One of the better remedies for the Autumnal blues is a bowl of hearty soup to warm the heart and provide nutrition. An important tip to remember is that in the winter hot foods provide heat and cold foods take away the heat from your body. A salad therefore is good but [...]
